A Lovely Day...
Sunday, August 22, 2010
Well, I am back after a whirlwind week! In an earlier post, I wrote about working hard to get ready for my oldest son and now daughter-in-law's wedding at our family lakehome. They really didn't want the traditional white tulle, etc~ and were looking to have a more natural style afternoon wedding in the backyard. Much of this week was spent preparing the yard for the ceremony. I thought I would share some of the set-up with you. In the above photo you can see the chairs, which were covered with chocolate brown satin covers, and the beautiful arbor which my husband built and I stained. We decided not to use a runner, for safety's sake, and had the flower girls toss petals in the aisle instead...
We surrounded the arbor with two large urns filled with fountain grass and ivy...it swayed beautifully in the breeze...
He also built this gangplank-style access to the beach~ the posts insured decorative safety for walking onto the dock, or stepping off onto the beach for the evening party here after the dinner reception at a nearby golf club...
There were ferns everywhere...
hydrangea...
and many flowering baskets. White lights were strung between the trees and on the deck for the evening party. This is the staircase where my husband and I accompanied my son, and the ring bearer and groomsmen arrived...
This stone pathway was the entryway to the backyard and was romantically lit with tiki lights at night...
The bride and her parents, as well the the bridesmaids and flower girls used the lower doorway, surrounded by ferns and flowers...
The day was hot and humid, but there was shade from the oaks above...
and this table (I hadn't finished this area when I took photos) was set up with programs done on paper fans and the tub was filled with ice and bottled water for the guests...
It was a beautiful and VERY happy day for both families~ most of the participants are pretty private about the photos, but hopefully I can find a few pics from the wedding which I can share. But I hope you will enjoy seeing this glimpse of the setting! I'm looking forward to relaxing a little now and stopping by to visit your blogs, and getting caught up on what's been happening in your lives, too!
Until next time...
Linda
