Change is Coming...

There's a few changes coming around our home!  You might remember awhile back when I mentioned we are going to paint all the woodwork in our house!  It will be a big job, but we are starting this week with the kitchen cabinetry.  Twelve years ago, we first re-did the cabinets.  They were standard builder grade oak, and we added many mouldings, slat bead board to the ends, knobs, and Benjamin Moore's Bennington Gray paint~ a taupe/gray.  It is actually a color being used a lot on woodwork right now, but I really want to lighten our woodwork up!  We have undercabinet lighting, which is not on in these pics, but we are also adding slat beadboard as a backsplash~ that will really brighten things up, too!  The hardware will be changed out as well!

There is a large breakfast bar off to the left, in the photo below, which is backed with red painted beadboard.  It has a very English Country look, but I am ready to change it up...the red will be mostly gone... and the wallpaper may go soon~ but this week's project is painting the cabinets!

You can see the good bones of the cabinet below~ my husband did a lovely job with the trim work~ and although they don't appear to be that dark, you can see the difference on the cabinet when I was testing paint...

We are going with Benjamin Moore's Simply White~ thanks to Kat of  Low Tide High Style for the great color suggestion!  Hopefully, soon I'll share how they turned out!

Until next time...I'll be busy painting!
Linda

  1. How exciting. I am a little sad that my favorite wallpaper will be going away, but I think the beadboard as a backsplash will look great. Can't wait to see the final results. Have fun painting!

I have the same exact builders grade honey oak (yuck) cabinets sans all that wonderful trim your hubby added *winks* And I'm LOVING that trim job! Gonna see if I can get my hubbs to do ours too. Thanks so much for the inspiration! Vanna

  21. I am dying to paint my kitchen cabinets. They are old and dated, in oak. I can't justify redoing the kitchen in this economy, so I am going to refresh instead. Any suggestions you might have would be highly appreciated!!

  27. Can't wait to see your cabinet with the new paint color. We have a vintage kitchen with white cabinets with natural wood doors. Original to the home but I'm thinking of painting the doors white to match the rests of the cabinet. I think it would really brighten the kitchen. Anxiously awaiting your pictures.

  39. I can't wait to see your kitchen. We are doing the same thing here. Only it will be the first go round for us. I'm nervous to get started but can't wait to get rid of the dark stain. How bright of a white would you say the Simply White is? I'm thinking SW Creamy because I can't go bright white with the counters and floors.
