In my last post, I shared photos of my kitchen as I prepared to begin a redecorating project! I didn't get as far as I had planned as I had some sick family members, and we traveled out-of-state for a funeral. But we did a lot of painting and work...and I am loving how it is turning out! I was a little nervous as the painting began...I could see it completed in my head, but took awhile to get used to the changing room (I'm weird like that...). There were many doors to paint, and they needed three coats on each side to get the best look. I primed worn paint spots and bare wood. I was a little worried when I started, that the paint (Benjamin Moore's Simply White) would be a little bright for the space, but that was just seeing it against the darker color...as I painted more pieces, I could see it was PERFECT for what I wanted!
Of course, the kitchen was in chaos for awhile...
I found drawer pulls and hinges I liked, but decided to paint and re-use the wood door pulls, which saved about $75. I painted them with 2 coats of acrylic craft paint and topped them with a coat of satin water based sealer...
All the wallpaper was removed from the backsplash area~ it was a lot of fun as it actually came off in huge pieces! It brightened the room so much!
The wood beadboard was put up, primed, and painted...
We are only about halfway finished, but thought you might like to see some peeks...here's a finished cabinet...
on the lower sink cabinet, my husband added hinges and door trays for storing sponges, etc...
and I am loving the backsplash...so bright and fresh...
So much still to do, but I'll show you more as we work! We found a great deal on new flooring, too, so that has become part of the project now, too!
My parents are coming to visit for the next week! I have not seen them for 8 months and am really looking forward to it! I'll be taking a little blog break to spend time with them and will be back with more kitchen progress next week!
Until next time...I'll be resting my sore arms and legs...
Linda

It is looking great! I love how crisp and clean the white looks. Oh, and I LOVE your pot rack. I have a thing for pot racks for some reason?
ReplyDeleteHow exciting Linda! Your kitchen is so dreamy - I'm in love with the wall paper - so cozy. It's going to look great with the new cabinet color.
ReplyDeletexoxo,
Kim
The white cupboards are looking GREAT! The bead board is also looking so beautiful, I know I sure love my bead board back splash. Your black cabinet pulls are lovely, so are the ones below your sink. I notice that you have a coffee maker like mine. We have had it for about four years and plastic parts are now breaking on it, we can't use the grinder on it anymore. How is it working for you?
ReplyDeleteHugs, Cindy
The kitchen is coming along beautifully.
ReplyDeleteI love what you dried your knobs on , I really got a kick out of the creativity for such stupid little pain in the arse pieces.
Nicely done!
Your kitchen is looking fabulous, and I love the addition of the beadboard. I added some over the icky tile backsplash in our kitchen several years ago, and I've never regretted it! Enjoy your visit with your parents!

What a great feeling to brighten up a kitchen. I just redid the cabinets and walls last summer on our Alaskan kitchen and what a difference it made!
ReplyDeletexoxo Kim
You are going to just LOVE your kitchen! It looks very similar to mine - painted cabinets, black granite tops, stainless appliances. So I am going to be very interested on how you decorate! Lots of work but oh, so worth it in the end!
ReplyDeleteI think we are coming up to the Bachman House the end of the month. Anything else going on that is interesting or junk worthy?
Loving it! I'm still having a hard time getting into the groove to move ~ to get my rooms painted.

It loooks wonderful so far Linda! Your cabinets are so prettyh anyway and now the white really made them stand out! Love the beadboard backsplash too, I have the fake paintable wallpaper version, it was good for a while but it needs to come down, it must be spring... I had Cam wash the kitchen walls Sat. so that I could get them painted! We did a bit of early spring nesting around the house, boy did it need it! xoxo
ReplyDeleteIt's going to be beautiful! I'm glad you're posting your progress pictures - will keep me motivated! I know what you mean about being apprehensive, the same things are wandering around in my brain too. I'm going with the beadboard backsplash too since we have lots of leftover pieces from the livingroom celing. Wish it was all done - lol
ReplyDeleteHey Linda! I LOVE IT!! (with a great big puffy heart kinda love!!) I have a serious on-going affair with beadboard...I swear I'd marry it if it was legal! lol :)

ReplyDeleteLinda I'm now following you, I love your blog! Your kitchen is beautiful!
ReplyDeleteI soooo want to paint my cabinets white but I have so many of them it would be quite a chore!
Susan @homeroad.
I love the bead board back splash! We decided not to tackle the tile backsplash in our kitchen when we did a mini renovation last year, but now I'm really wanting to replace it with either this or with vintage-like tin tiles. It's looking great and I can't wait to see the results!
