A Simple Project...

Recently I found this new metal sign in a thrift store and decided to use it as the base for a sign for my kitchen!  I painted it with white paint...nothing perfect about it...

and penciled on the letters "EAT".  You can freehand it, transfer letters, or what I did~ just trace around some large letters...

I filled the letters in with black paint, and distressed with a sanding block when the paint was dry.  I'm not great at sign painting or have much of a steady hand, so distressing really helps!  I used a damp napkin to pull a little paint off one side of the letters as a drop shadow...

Finally, I mixed a few drops of Burnt Umber craft paint into some decoupage medium and painted it on to seal the piece, and add some depth and patina.
,

I hung it above a door in the kitchen...

I've been inspired by so many of you to look at objects I find, and  transform them!

I am joining Linda at Coastal Charm's Nifty Thrifty Tuesday

And if you haven't heard about it yet...Debra at Common Ground is starting a new party today!  It's called Monday Marketplace and it's going to be like a virtual flea market!  How fun!  I'm joining up with a couple of my etsy offerings today! You can click on the icon below to head on over to the party!

Until next time...

  6. Your sign turned out wonderful. I've seen metal signs like this at Thrift stores with sayings on them and passed them up. Not giving a second thought that they could be transformed. Thanks for your tip and your inspiration!

  22. I just had an "ah ha" moment. My bon apetite sign that matches NOTHING I bet I could turn it over and paint on it. The metal letters are raised, at least on the front side.

    Checking that out today.
