Last year I found a vintage grocery price stamping set! Do you remember when they stamped the grocery store prices on the items? I remember purple ink, and sometimes it came off on your hands. I can just imagine a clerk finding the right price stamper... some of these prices are really different from today...and stamping each can and box...
The stampers are about 7" long each and made of wood.
At one end, these decorative metal numbers...
at the other, the price stampers...
Love the prices!
I think they have a great industrial look, too!
These fun markers are in my Itsy Bits And Pieces ETSY SHOP now. I've been adding lots of goodies lately!
I am joining Debra at Monday Marketplace
Until next time...
I remember seeing these prices but have never seen the actual stamp before. i would have never known what they were if you hadn't told us. Thanks. Now if I ever see one i will know what it is.
ReplyDeleteThose are fabulous, Linda! I've never seen any of those before - what a find!

Those are amazing. You really showcase them so cutely, too. Love my visit to your blog today.
ReplyDeleteLinda, I just love how when I stop by for a visit you always bring back a fond memory or 2! I've never seen these stamps but I definitely remember the marks on the cans!

They are the coolest things I've ever seen!
ReplyDeleteI had commented on your FB posting about these...thinking they were storm window markers! I was way off...and they are so cool...going over to your etsy shop...maybe I need them...!
ReplyDeleteToo cool...I love them! Great photos too :) Laurel
ReplyDeleteOh- I sure do remember the stores using them...and I think they ONLY ever had that purple-blue ink. It did come off on your hands. What a fun find! xo Diana
ReplyDeleteI just finished looking at this post with Bob. When we were young, in high school, Bob worked at A&P grocery after school. We enjoyed looking at the price stamps. It brought back many memories. He stayed in the grocery industry, first managing retail stores and eventurally he started his own brokerage company.
ReplyDeleteHe also made many of the "homemade" signs in the windows. They were made of butcher paper and they used special paints. The script took some practice to get it right.
In the words of Bob Hope, "Thanks for the memories".
Ginger:)
Yikes, I can remember seeing cans and other merchandise stamped with those. I've never seen those before, though.
ReplyDeleteHugs, Cindy
So...if I say "yes" does that make me anything but old? (smile)
ReplyDeleteKari
That is a fun find. I didn't remember the pricing until I saw the picture. I've never seen the stamps before.
ReplyDeleteThose are so cool.
ReplyDeleteI can't think of anything to buy today...that would cost 2 fer $.45
You can barely find 2 fer $1...
nice, Pat
I love, love, love these stampers! I'm heading over to your shop now! Yes...I guess I do remember them. LOL

What a cool set of stamps. Yes, I am afraid I do remember when the items were priced.
ReplyDeleteDear Linda, those was a very special find. I remember all those lilac stamps on meat and wonder how healthy that was ? But they are wonderful.
ReplyDeleteHugs, Dorthe
Yes I do remember these a lifetime ago at our small hometown grocery store!
ReplyDeleteAs I was reading this post I noticed the Chatterbox book on your sidebar and realized why it looked so familiar to me when I saw it in a shop this weekend. The dog is so sweet!

I wondered what these were. Oh, I LOVE them! They have such a great industrial look. Hope you're having a good week. xo
ReplyDeleteWow, I've never seen anything like these before. They're so much fun just the way they are!!
ReplyDeleteWhat a unique find! I've never seen these before. I'm trying to recall if I remember those days too. I think I was too young. I was just a child and didn't pay attention to that then. That's a neat piece of history!
ReplyDeleteSo cool! I remember them well. Also the sound of them hitting the tops of the cans. Fun find. Mimi
ReplyDeleteLinda, what a unique find! I would love to know what someone might do with those in a creative way. I remember those purple ink prices very well and yes, they always seemed to transfer somewhere on my body, especially if they got wet! Ann
ReplyDeleteI love these markers. I went to your etsy shop and they must have already sold. I would have bought them for my 89 year old Dad. He started his working career at the tender age of 12 at a small grocery store in Albert Lea, MN. He would have gotten such a kick out of them, especially with a purple ink pad. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteAre these all sold? I can't seem to find them in your etsy shop. :(
ReplyDelete@ Lisa White- They sold out very quickly!
ReplyDelete@Amy- I loved hearing the story about your father...I actually found these in Fairmont MN, not far from Albert Lea!
ReplyDeleteFun stamps! I need to check your Etsy store more often...things disappear way too quickly! I still love my bottle caps!
