A while ago I found two prints at a thrift store...very pretty, but nothing that would work in my home. What I was more attracted to was the style and nice size of the frames, as well as the distressed finish and small display area. The green color wouldn't work, so I decided to paint them white. (Remember, you can click on any photo to enlarge it)
I distressed them and allowed bits of the green and previous distressing to show through...
Then I found an antique egg print from The Graphics Fairy and printed two 3" x 5" copies on matte photo paper. That way, I could cut out nice borders around one egg on each print...
I used a scrap mat that I had, and cut pieces to back the egg prints...
nothing perfect, I did it by eye...
and used a glue stick to assemble it all onto old dictionary pages which I cut to the size of the glass opening.
This is a 3-D piece, and I did not want to place it under glass, so I just used the gluestick to apply it right onto the glass surface...
I think this treatment is quite a dramatic, inexpensive transformation! I'm trying to train my brain to look more at frame shapes when I am treasure hunting...so much can be done with them!

You're so clever! I love how those turned out. I agree with you about frame shapes. It's worth looking at frames that you don't like the finish or color when you can easily change that. Just pay attention to the size and shape.
ReplyDeleteLove the chunky frames and cute prints.
ReplyDeleteLove the makeover Linda! The frames are Beautiful!
ReplyDeleteLove these!
ReplyDeleteYour frame redo is very unique. The 3D is nice on that small display window. Very nice!
