Recently, I had a fun thrift store find... a charming needlepoint cottage sampler!
So cute...
The frame was very plain, not-so-nice wood...
I am a blogger for DecoArt and recently was provided with some of their Americana Acrylic Paints to do some projects! I chose some pretty colors for spring...love all the blues and greens...
The color I chose is Blue Mist...
you can see the pretty depth of color...
I did a couple of simple coats of paint on the frame, and lightly distressed it to let a little of the wood come through. The paint is very easy to use, and cleans up easily, too...
I love the punch of color, and think it adds to the cottage look of the piece. I hung it above a clock my oldest son made many years ago in a shop class...and added a couple of friendly little dogs...
I've been working on a few other quick transformation projects with my paints and will be sharing them with you soon!
{I received product from DecoArt...all projects and opinions are my own...}

Very pretty, Linda! The blue you used certainly adds to the needlepoint piece and makes it look fresher, too.
ReplyDeleteI'M NEW TO YOUR BLOG AS OF TODAY. I LOVE THE PICTURE AND YES THE COLOR ADDS CLASS TO THE PIECE.I LOVE IT HANGING OVER THE CLOCK. I ALSO LOVE YOUR DOGS.I HAVE 4 LITTLE DOGSLIKE YOURS THAT ARE SO VERY OLD SITTING ON ONE OF MY TABLES. ONE IS FROM A NEIGHBORS' HOME OF SOME 77 YEARS AGO. I USED TO GO TO HER HOUSE AS A CHILD AND SHE HAD A COLLECTION OF DOGS. SHE USED TO LET ME STAND AND LOOK THEM OVER EVERYTIME I WOULD VISIT HER. SHE HAD NO KIDS AND ALWAYS LOVE IT WHEN I WOULD KNOCK ON HER DOOR AND ASK HER IF I COULD COME IN TO PLAY. SHE WAS LIKE A 2ND MOM.SHE NEVER TURNED ME AWAY.MEMORIES..THAT PICTURE OF YOURS HAS MEMORIES TOO, I BET.THANKS FOR LETTING ME ENTER YOUR WORLD IF ONLY FOR A FEW MINUTES. GRANNY[FLORIDA]
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh Linda....what a fabulous find! The pretty blue painted frame is just the perfect finishing touch! I use their paints a lot, and love them!

Oh that blue really enhances the sweet little needle point!
ReplyDeleteLove that color! So pretty!
ReplyDeleteIt looks great and the dogs really set it off! Now if I could just make my 80's needlepoint projects looks so good (there's only so much you can do with geese).
ReplyDeleteLinda, Your frame is so much sweeter in that color. That saying is one I love. My daughter and I have a house cutout with that saying on it ..we think of each other when we look at it. Blessings to you for a great weekend, xoxo,Susie
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful color, Linda! It really is perfect for the frame and needlework piece. I'll have to see if I have that color in my stash!!
ReplyDeleteIt's perfect, I love that color. Needle points take so long to make and I always feel guilty when I pick them up for a couple dollars!

Hi Sophie & Bailey
It is always so surprising how just painting can transform a piece to boring/dull into a showpiece. I love the color you chose. It looks so sweet above the clock your son made. Hugs! Dianne
