We have had a lot of rain here lately, and the garden loves it! Last week, we worked on a fun project in the yard ( and I have the mosquito bites to prove it...)!
We have a limestone edged path leading to our Secret Garden area, but have never filled it in. This year with all of the rain, it has been nothing but mud. With lots of Pinterest inspiration and Tracie's Path over at her beautiful Fishtail Cottage Secret Garden...we decided to go with a rock path. We used 3/4" gray trap rock, which we have used in other areas of our yard...it tamps down well and makes a sturdy base.
This is a very shady garden...I am adding plants to both sides of the path every year...
We also decided to extend the path using some extra limestone edging rocks...it heads out of the Secret Garden and wraps around to our shed. It makes it so much easier to transport the mower or use a wheelbarrow. The bed off to the left, took a big hit with the hard winter last year...we have lots of re-planting to do...
I've also been re-planting in the back flower garden, as we lost a lot there, too. Annuals are adding a little color to the perennials...
I added a new climbing rose, too...
I am joining~
Until next time...
Love your garden path.
ReplyDeleteI laugh as I read about all your rain and think about all the bloggers complaining of rain right now. We have not had rain since February and even then it was 2 days. We NEED rain so badly.
What a lovely garden. I don't think I've ever seen that part of your yard before. Sorry you lost so many perennials to the stupid polar vortex this year. I keep waiting for a few of mine to come back up, but I think I should probably just count them as dead by now. l mean, it's officially summer now.
ReplyDeleteLove your path, Linda! I love paths in a garden and when having our done when we had a brick patio done at the old house, I made sure it was nice and curvy. Your flowers look wonderful. It's a shame you lost some plants and I'm really surprised that I didn't after the horrible winter so many of us had. I'm sure you will be able to fill it in again. I used to divide a lot of my own perennials to save money and get some instant plants.
ReplyDeleteIt is so pretty! You are brave to garden with all the mosquitos (aka state bird)...I was going to weed and mow today...maybe Monday?! I bought a peony plant today at the flea market. I hope you didn't a wet lower level. We are dry!
ReplyDeletewarmly,
deb
I love your garden and the new path. Your flowers are just lovely and I really love the wheelbarrow. My garden has been neglected since my mom passed away three years ago.Maybe this fall will be the right time. Thanks so much for sharing!
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness, beautiful! I love the idea of a path leading to a secret garden. Your back area is wonderful! Love the old wheel barrel full of petunias.
ReplyDeleteWhat a charming idea to create a little path to your secret garden and garden shed! It looks like you've got a lot of perennials growing in your garden, which usually are pretty hardy. I lost a few this year, too, but I had to go back and look at photos from previous years to figure out what was in the empty spots. If there's one good thing about all the rain we've been getting, it's that everything is so lush and green! I love your little garden cart overflowing with flowers! Thanks for sharing your garden photos, Linda!
ReplyDeleteLinda, Your garden is very nice. I love your path too. You have worked hard I can tell. I had a friend who was always giving me gardening advise....and she never even had a flower bed. I always laughed....but I miss that dear friend. Blessings, xoxo,Susie

Your gardens are just gorgeous, Linda! I love the winding path you added, it makes it look like a secret garden:) Your roses are so pretty, and I really love the petunias spilling out from your vintage garden cart. Thankfully the hard winter didn't kill anything around here. Just wish it would have killed all the poison ivy, hahaha!
ReplyDeleteYour secret Garden is delightful.
ReplyDeleteI love the hostas in that 3rd photo! I'd love to have some hostas around my place-- I fear if the dogs don't lay all over them...the chickens would just scratch them up!
I like your choice of rock, and the idea that it doesn't have to all be done at once. Adding new plantings over time is the way to go in my book.
So who knows... I may get those hostas after all ... Pat
What a lovely garden :)
