Lately, I've been working on a lot of painting projects. It always amazes me how a little paint transforms a piece! You might remember seeing my old wood cubby...
We've had this piece in our sunporch for several years...here it is last Christmas...
I found it years ago at a garage sale. It's simply made of plywood, and wood tongue and groove planking...probably a garage and tool storage piece.
I've been wanting to change this up for awhile now. I used Deco Art
I've been wanting to change this up for awhile now. I used Deco Art
Americana Chalky Finish paint in Yesteryear, a nice light gray.
I painted the sides and the front facing...the top and interior were left in the natural contrasting wood. I did one light coat, allowing wood tones to come through the paint for a wonderful old looking finish. I gave the paint a coat of Americana Clear Wax, and applied the wax to the wood top, too...giving it a lovely finish.
We wanted to use this piece in our living room against our stair railing. It is the exact size of one part of the railing, and serves to give the room a more grounded feeling, rather than being so open to the entryway.
It is a wonderful place for my urn of naturally shed antlers...
I also found a lined crate at Homegoods, and gave it a quick coat of Americana Chalky Finish paint in the Relic color. It makes the perfect place to store magazines, and fits under the cubby...
I'm loving it in the living room now...
I am a blogger for DecoArt and received some product used in this project...all opinions are my own.
Until next time...
Wow! It looks amazing. It was nice before but now it looks really perky!
ReplyDeleteLove the shed antlers too :)
Hope you have a lovely weekend

Your cubby turned out great, Linda! What a difference the paint makes. I can see the piece in so many different rooms. It would be perfect for storage in a craft room!
ReplyDeleteOh it looks great! : ) I could see a knitter or someone who crafts with yarn just lusting over that baby...:)
ReplyDeleteLovely transformation. And what a great use of those antlers!
ReplyDeleteI love it, Linda! Painting it really took it up a notch! Cubbies are so fun to decorate. I had one very similar to yours, but I gave it away when we moved from one state to another 10 years ago. I still miss it!
ReplyDeleteOh-fun! I think it looks better with the paint on it- freshens it up. I did kind of a gulp when you said you were painting it- I remember painting cubbies INSIDE -what a job that is! You got a good look by leaving the insides unpainted. Smart girl- xo Diana
ReplyDeleteThe paint totally makes that look like a different piece. Love it!
ReplyDeleteThis is such a fun and interesting piece and you finished it so nicely. Those cubbies give you so many different options for display. Great job Linda! Stopping by from our "Over 40" group. Maybe we should rename ourselves to the "Under 100" group ;-)

Linda, You have had some fun with that piece of furniture. I like how you have it arranged now. Pretty paint color. Blessings, xoxo,Susie
ReplyDeletePaint makes everything better!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great piece, Linda! I love the color you used on both pieces. I have got to get some of that paint and try it on something!
ReplyDeleteI love it! The paint really brightens it up. I thought you were going to tackle the inside of all those little cubbies; what a load of work that would have been. Love the two tones.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great update.

Linda, what a fun piece. The paint job just elevated the cubby to a "grown-up" piece of furniture!
ReplyDeleteA job well done!
Smiles, alice
What a lovely transformation--love their paint & great color! Blessings, Cecilia
ReplyDeleteI think that is a country song.... The Old Wood Cubby. It's about how paint renews cubby love. Which is also an oldies song you might remember.... and they called it cubby looooooovveeee.
ReplyDeleteThat is such a wonderful old wood cubby and it makes the perfect room divider, too. I bet the grands have fun filling it with toys and trinkets! Love the new color!
ReplyDeleteIt is amazing when folks can find something and then envision it differently and make it shine better than anyone thought it could be. Wonderful make-over.

Oh....I love those colors, and that does look so much better with a touch of paint on it.

ReplyDeleteI recently used their paint color "vintage" and love it!
I love cubbies! It's a perfect piece for a collector. The paint perked it up nicely.
ReplyDeleteA nice piece and plenty of space to use for decor objects. I love using Chalk paint myself. Sharon
